ENGINEERING VERIFICATION

How VentTools controls manufacturer data

Every enabled fire-damper calculation must identify its product, tested method, dimension reference and source status. Where those cannot be established, VentTools shows a review warning or refuses to calculate.

What “verified” means here

A verified VentTools method has enough published information to follow the complete path from the selected damper to the opening result. It does not mean that VentTools has certified the product or replaced the manufacturer. It means the calculation record identifies the controlling geometry and keeps the official source available for checking.

StatusMeaning
VerifiedThe selected product and method have a mapped source, size rule and opening chain suitable for the displayed result.
Review requiredSome guidance is available, but a source conflict, missing casing datum or method-specific detail prevents a fully issueable record.
Calculation lockedVentTools will not create an opening from another product's rule or from an unsupported extrapolation.

The verification chain

  1. Identify the exact family: similar product codes remain separate records.
  2. Select the tested installation method: wall, floor, batt, mortar, frame and remote methods are not interchangeable.
  3. Establish the geometry reference: nominal duct, outside casing, PTC shroud or installation frame.
  4. Apply the published opening rule: fixed allowance, permitted range or exact table.
  5. Map lining and setting out: reveal lining is separated from face pattress, batt and infill.
  6. Attach source and limitations: the result carries the document reference, revision status and critical installation notes.
Blocking principle: no method may invent a position, clearance, opening, lining or support requirement that is not established by the controlling manufacturer document.

Examples of controls that prevent a wrong result

Similar BSB circular product names

FD-C-AF, FD-C Series and FSD-TD-C are separate calculation paths. FD-C-AF uses a circular spigot through a rectangular curtain-blade casing and Angle Frame. It must not inherit the FSD-TD-C multiblade casing table simply because a diameter is the same.

Nominal duct versus casing edge

The bottom structural cut is calculated from the selected method's casing projection, clearance and lining—not from an assumption that the casing ends at the nominal duct edge.

Published ranges versus invented centre positions

Where a manufacturer permits a range of edge clearances or non-central positioning, VentTools stores those constraints separately. A convenient midpoint is not presented as a manufacturer requirement.

Conflicting source documents

The Lindab WKS25 Type A opening is shown differently in two supplied documents. VentTools retains the conflict and identifies which controlling installation booklet supports the live provisional method rather than hiding the discrepancy.

DateReleaseEngineering change
29 Aug 2026V2.0.8Added privacy-balanced organization authorship, original model-identification aids, an always-visible dimension chain and a review control for alternative reveal-lining thicknesses.
29 Aug 2026V2.0.7Published the verification method as static, crawlable content; retained V2.0.6 calculation logic and added author accountability.
26 Aug 2026V2.0.6Improved offset controls and wording without changing recorded bend tables or calculation formulae.
21 Aug 2026V2.0.5Added the separate BSB FD-C-AF path, including verified Ø355 and Ø560 geometry.

Controlling documents and corrections

VentTools is independent and does not certify products or installations. The current manufacturer IOM, Declaration of Performance, approved fire strategy, supporting construction and project-specific detail always take precedence.
